MALTA ON THE SILVER SCREEN

JEAN PIERRE BORG

The VP Gallery is hosting Malta on the Silver Screen on the 17th of April at 18:30, a talk inspired by FPM’s latest publication, Titles to Talkies by Charlie Cauchi. Guest speaker, Jean Pierre Borg, will lead the session exploring Malta’s role as a filming location during the interwar period.

During the talk, Borg will cast a spotlight on significant British productions filmed between 1926 and 1931. The talk will feature a selection of clips from Sons of the Sea (1926), The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands (1927), Bolibar (1929), and Tell England (1931), providing a rare glimpse of Malta’s 20th century landscape.

The talk will echo Cauchi’s research, touching on Malta’s colonial identity, its cinematic culture and the technological shift from silent films to talkies.
