On Tongue/Fuq Ilsna
The Victor Pasmore Gallery and Inizjamed, in collaboration with Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti are organising the third open mic in this series to celebrate the poet-artist. The gallery will open its doors for poets, writers, musicians, storytellers, and wordsmiths to play with (and share) their verse-making process. The third open mic deals with the notion of TRANSLATION and will be preceded by a translation workshop on 5 March 2025.
This event forms part of the permanent collection THE EYE AND THE SYMBOL at the VP Gallery.
The two-and-a-half-hour workshop shall begin at Victor Pasmore Gallery at 5pm where participants will first be given a tour of the gallery. From then on, the participants will be instructed to take down notes related to these artworks but also to their surroundings. The workshop will continue at the Valletta Design Cluster at 6.15pm. This second part will focus on the translation aspect of the workshop. Participants will be free to engage in a translation task of their choosing, by translating a poem of Victor Pasmore from English to any other language, or by translating Pasmore’s verses to a work of their own, or even by translating his visual works into words. The workshop will not be limited to a single language, but it will be limited to 15 participants.
Participation is free, but registration is obligatory.
The participants of this workshop are highly encouraged to read the pieces they would have worked on during the open mic that follows. The third open mic will be held at the VP Gallery on 14 March at 6.30pm. All open mic sessions are free and open to all languages. Booking in advance is highly recommended. The gallery will be open for visits, and conversations may continue afterward over a complimentary glass of wine.
